Pilot Guides and Tutorials

Step-by-step guides for pilots and flight departments. From first-time setup to advanced fleet management, learn how to get the most out of Sky Duty.

WHO IT'S FOR

For pilots, owners, dispatchers, and small flight departments

Guides, tutorials, and resources for flight department operators who fly Part 91, charter, or owner-flown operations. We try to keep these short and practical — no marketing, no padding, just the steps that get you from a fresh install to a working fleet.

Pilots use these guides to set up the logbook with the right templates, configure currency tracking, and export PDFs that pass an annual review. Owners and operators get walkthroughs on adding aircraft, recording Hobbs and tach rollovers, and keeping inspection countdowns clean. Dispatchers focused on multi-leg trips lean on the scheduling tools explainers — Gantt views, calendar feeds, and crew assignment patterns. Small flight departments running one to ten aircraft get the operations-handbook view: how the pieces of the Sky Duty app fit together end to end.

WHAT'S INSIDE

What you'll find in our guides

The Learn hub holds three kinds of content. Setup walkthroughs are the fastest path from first launch to a usable fleet — the Getting started with Sky Duty guide is the canonical one, written so a new operator can be flying their first scheduled trip in a few minutes. The Sky Duty walkthrough video covers the same ground in a guided tour if you'd rather watch than read.

Workflow explainers go deeper on a single area — scheduling patterns, logbook templates, currency tracking, expense entry, and maintenance tracking for inspections and squawks. Aviation reference posts cover the math and rules where the app intersects FAR and POH details, so you don't have to keep flipping between tabs while you set things up. We add to the list as questions come in from operators using the app — if you can't find what you need, the contact form is the right place to flag it.

TOOLS

Tools that pair well with these guides

A lot of the guides on this hub reference quick math or registry lookups, so it's worth knowing the free aviation tools live one click away. Reading a Hobbs-versus-tach explainer? The E6B calculator handles the conversion math without leaving the browser. Walking through fleet setup and need to confirm a registration before you add a tail? The tail number lookup searches 308,000+ FAA-registered aircraft. Both are free, both work without an account.

TRY IT

Ready to try it yourself

The fastest way to learn the app is to install it and follow the getting-started guide with your own tail numbers in front of you. The walkthrough takes about three minutes start to finish, and most of what you read on the rest of this hub will click into place once you have the app open on your iPhone or iPad.

When you're ready, download Sky Duty and run through the first-launch setup. The guides are here when you need them, and so is the contact page if you hit something the docs don't cover.
